About Modern Dentistry
Maybe it's been a few years since your last cleaning, and a tooth has started to feel sensitive when you sip something cold. Or you're a parent looking for one office that can see your toddler, your teenager, and you. Or you've been told you might need an implant and you want to understand your options before committing to anything. These are the kinds of situations we see every day at Modern Dentistry. Since 2005, we've helped patients across Torrey Hills, Carmel Valley, and San Diego County work through questions like these with clear answers and a calm, unhurried approach.
When we opened our doors in 2005, our goal was to bring state-of-the-art dentistry to our neighbors without losing the personal attention that makes people feel comfortable in a dental chair. Under the leadership of Dr. Amir Mojaver, we've grown into a team of dentists, hygienists, and assistants. We focus on cosmetic, family, laser, and implant dentistry, all built on the same foundation we started with.
That foundation is a conservative, non-aggressive approach. In practical terms, we aim to preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as we reasonably can, and we explain your options before recommending treatment. If a small filling or composite bonding can address a concern, we'll talk with you about that before discussing a crown. If you're weighing veneers against whitening or enamel microabrasion, we'll walk you through what each involves so the decision is truly yours.
One of the most common questions we hear is, "Will I have to go somewhere else for that?" Very often, the answer is no. Alongside our general dentists, our team includes Dr. Nikko Johnson, a board-certified periodontist, and Dr. Thomas V. Brislin, a board-certified oral surgeon. Our office also has a board-certified pediatric dentist, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist, and a board-certified dental anesthesiologist on staff.
This means care that might otherwise be spread across several offices can often stay under one roof. A patient replacing missing teeth, for example, may need CBCT imaging, a bone graft or sinus lift, implant placement, and a final restoration such as an implant-supported bridge or denture. We coordinate these steps together and handle complex treatment planning across specialties. Many of our specialty services accept patients without a referral, and our on-site dental lab helps us keep the process connected from start to finish.
What to Expect When You Visit
Many people feel nervous before seeing a new dentist, especially if a past experience was uncomfortable. We take that seriously. For patients with dental anxiety, we offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation, provided by our dental anesthesiologist. We'll talk through which option fits your needs and your treatment.
Here's what a typical first visit with us includes:
- A conversation about your concerns, goals, and dental history
- A dental exam, cleaning with our hygienist, and X-rays or other imaging as needed
- A clear explanation of what we find, in plain language
- A discussion of your options, starting with the most conservative choices
- Straightforward information about insurance, payment, and financing
Children are welcome from infancy through age 16 in our pediatric care. Parents are welcome in the treatment room, and we treat children with special healthcare needs. We also offer preventive care like sealants and fluoride treatments, space maintainers when needed, and sports mouth guards for active kids.
Care for Every Stage and Situation
Because we see patients of all ages, our work spans a wide range of needs. Some patients come to us for routine exams, cleanings, and cavity detection. Others are dealing with jaw clicking, TMJ discomfort, or chronic facial pain without an obvious dental cause, which our orofacial pain care is designed to evaluate. Still others want to explore a smile makeover, Invisalign or clear aligners, or in-office or take-home whitening.
When something urgent happens, such as a cracked tooth, a dental injury, or sudden pain, we offer emergency dental appointments, including same-day emergency care through our endodontic services. We also perform root canal therapy, retreatments, and apicoectomies, as well as oral biopsies and oral cancer screenings in our office. For adults managing gum disease, we provide scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery, gum grafting, and ongoing periodontal and implant maintenance.
Rooted in Our Community, Clear About Costs
We're proud to care for families in Torrey Hills and Carmel Valley, and we welcome patients from San Diego, Del Mar, La Jolla, Encinitas, and Solana Beach. Many of our patients have been with us for years, and we enjoy watching families grow alongside our practice.
We also believe that understanding costs is part of good care. We accept all major PPO insurance plans and welcome self-pay patients. For patients without insurance, we offer a $99 new patient special that includes an exam, cleaning, and X-rays, along with our in-office Wellness Program membership plan. Financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit, and established patients may qualify for in-office financing. If you have questions about any of these options, our team is happy to talk them through with you before your visit.
